Are There Still Tax Credits and Rebates for Attic Insulation in Oklahoma City?

Are There Still Tax Credits and Rebates for Attic Insulation in Oklahoma City?

The federal tax credit most homeowners heard about, the 25C energy efficient home improvement credit, no longer applies to new attic insulation projects. Under the 2025 tax law, the IRS says the credit is not allowed for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. The good news for Oklahoma City is that OG&E still offers an attic insulation rebate to many of its customers.

What Happened to the 25C Tax Credit

From 2023 through 2025, 25C let homeowners claim 30 percent of qualifying insulation and air sealing costs, up to $1,200 a year. That ended early under the 2025 tax law. If you insulated in 2025, talk to your tax preparer about claiming it for that year. For work done in 2026, it does not apply, so be cautious of anyone still advertising it.

The OG&E Attic Insulation Rebate

OG&E's posted program rules for Oklahoma include these requirements:

  • Existing attic insulation must be less than 8 inches or R-23
  • Finished insulation must be at least 13 inches or R-38
  • The home must be at least 10 years old
  • Single-family homes on a permanent foundation only
  • Installed by a professional insulation company to the manufacturer's specifications
  • Invoice dated within the program year and paperwork submitted by OG&E's deadline

OG&E sets rebate amounts and deadlines each program year, so check OG&E's current rebate page before you plan around a specific amount.

Who Is Not Eligible

Not every metro home buys power from OG&E. Most Edmond homes are served by Edmond Electric, and many rural homes around Piedmont, Choctaw and other edges of the metro are served by electric cooperatives. Check your bill and ask your provider about its own programs.
